Wimbledon 2013 Has Begun! See The Stars Working Tennis Style In Bright Whites

24 June 2013

With Wimbledon kicking into action today, we’re thinking tennis, strawberries, sunshine, and what to wear court side. And it seems we’re not the only ones. This week fashion-loving stars including Sienna Miller, Emma Roberts and Sarah Jessica Parker have all been out wearing tennis-inspired whites from crisp shirts to blazers, pumps and short dresses.

Never far away from an on-the-spot trend, Rihanna stepped out in a typically chic ensemble of blazer, crop and a white skirt that, judging by some of the previous years’ stylish tennis stars, wouldn’t look out of place on the court.

But of course it doesn’t have to be literal tennis-wear (although we’re not ruling out a visor). You can make like Kate Middleton who last year dazzled the crowds at Wimbledon in a white Alice Temperley dress with tennis-esque pleats, which made a stylish nod to the home-grown game. On another visit to Wimbledon’s Royal Box, she wore a recycled (of course) Alexander Mcqueen number which was reminiscent of the traditional tennis garments, with cream cable-knit and navy trim.

However, even with all the determination of Andy Murray playing his final set, white can be a tricky trend to wear, and not just because you have to be extra careful not to spill or indeed touch anything that might stain it (red lipstick, we’re looking at you). Unlike the little black dress, it isn’t a fail safe, but worn in the right way it can make you look like a bronzed goddess.

And so we’re back to Rihanna, who by choosing cute tennis-inspired skirt and blazer separates, teamed with pumps to give the look a sporty edge, makes off-duty white look like easy wearing. Tennis-white one pieces look stunning too, crisp, chic and simple is the key a la Emma Roberts, Alessandra Ambrosio and back to the Duchess of Cambridge in Alice Temperley.

It's certainly a close match between these style-savvy stars - but who gets your vote?
