Ever since that wedding dress Kate Middleton has looked to Alexander McQueen’s creative director Sarah Burton to help shape her style. And now the Duchess has announced she’s expecting her first child, we think she’ll lean on the designer ever more so. Because Sarah is also pregnant – due in February with twins.
The designer revealed her news to The Times a couple of months ago, when she confessed that pregnancy had been making her forgetful. ‘I’ve got pregnancy memory loss. I’m not just fat – it’s twins.’
So what can we presume Sarah’s been telling Kate about pregnancy style? Well, judging by her recent post-pregnancy public appearances Sarah follows three key rules:
1. Stick to black. Now, this is going to be a hard one for Kate who, like the Queen, hardly ever wears the fashion world’s favourite colour. But she can steal that idea of using a bag to disguise her bump.

2. Cropped, embellished jackets fall at just the right length. Expect to see Kate in her own version of this gold number v soon, we say.

3. Don’t banish heels. Something it looks like Kate’s already taken to heart. Just last week she was playing hockey at her own school field… - wait for it – heeled boots!

So given Sarah Burton has managed to get Kate experimenting with colour (think that red dress for the Jubilee flotilla), show her cleavage (hello, that Malaysian ballgown) and experiment with high fashion looks, we’re rather excited about seeing what the McQueen legend will come up with for Kate’s highly-anticipated pregnancy style. And don’t even get us STARTED on what she’ll be able to create for mini-Middleton. Will McQueen start a baby line? WE. DIE.
