15 November 2012: Maison Martin Margiela X H&M arrives in stores
Prepare for a stylish stampede. Maison Martin Margiela for H&M arrives in stores in the UK today and if the high street store's previous collabs are anything to go by we could have a few fashion battles on our hands. Good luck out there and, as always, let us know what you buy!
2 October 2012: Sam Taylor Johnson Shoots The MMM x H&M Campaign
Stop what you're doing! FIVE campaign shots for H&M's latest designer collab with Maison Martin Margiela have leaked online! And we reckon these pics are enough to get people queueing outside H&M's stores and scouring for their very own H&M x Margiela jacket on eBay.
As you can see from the sneak previews in the gallery above, the collab's coats are as big, structured and dramatic as you would expect from MMM. The pics were taken by Sam Taylor Johnson in Paris, bien sur, and there are four ads for womenswear and one shot featuring a tan overcoat for the boys.
We have also got the first clue of pricing as the men's camel coat is marked in the ad as £149.99. The women's coats are listed in Chinese RMB - now just in case you can't work out the exchange rate in your head, we have done the maths for you. So the black coat which is listed as RMB 999 is £99, the RMB 1490 black coat is £147 while the 1290 RMB black coat is £128 and the silver leggings are £29.99. Get your shopping lists at the ready!
After the Spring Summer 2013 show arrived during Paris Fashion Week earlier this week (check it out in the gallery above), excitement for Maison Martin Margiela's collaboration with H&M is heating up. The collection was minimalism at its best with avant-garde pieces strutting through a Parisian mansion that was covered in white plastic.
Today, we've been given a sneak preview of the ad campaign for the upcoming collab and in true MMM stylee, it's low-key, black and white, and slightly bonkers. Artist-photographer-director Sam Taylor Wood Johnson was chosen to direct the photoshoot as well as a series of short films on the streets of Paris.
'Working with such an anarchic house as Martin Margiela alongside a high-street brand was a challenge that creatively became a crazy, fun project,' STJ, wife of Aaron Taylor Johnson, told WWD. 'I wanted to create an atmosphere that was both quiet and still. That each person was in their own emotional and physical thought space. A world away from the heady atmosphere of the usual urban noise.' Sounds good to us.
12th June 2012: H&M Confirm Margiela Collaboration
Yesterday, the rumour mill was spinning with news that H&M is teaming up with French fashion house Maison Martin Margiela and this morning, we have confirmation!
‘Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most important and influential fashion houses of the past three decades. I am so excited by this radical collaboration which will give fashion lovers around the world the chance to wear special pieces by Maison Martin Margiela,' says Margareta van den Bosch, Creative Advisor at H&M. 'This collaboration will be a great and memorable fashion moment.’
Meanwhile, the folks at MMM had this to say of the exciting collab: ‘We are very happy to present Maison Martin Margiela pieces with H&M, offering a new interpretation of our vision. The democracy of our fashion has always been at the centre of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further. We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all.'
Ooh. We can hardly wait! The collection for women AND men lands on 15th November 2012 at around 230 stores worldwide, as well as online. As if that wasn't exciting enough, we've been treated to a C.V for the collaboration that's presented in Margiela's typically stark style (see above). It clarifies that this project will be a combination of 'conceptual and timeless style' with 'democratic fashion' for all. This really is going to be a right treat! Oh, and there's a video too. Avant garde polo neck, anyone?
11th June 2012: Who Will H&M Collaborate With Next?
We're already feeling giddy this morning with the news that Karl Lagerfeld is creating his very own beauty range with Shu Uemura and now we have another oh-so-fabulous collaboration on the horizon. Brace yourselves, fash fans: H&M may be launching a collection with Maison Martin Margiela! *scream*
After major collabs with the glossy likes of Lanvin, Versace, Stella McCartney, Jimmy Choo and most recently Marni, we're impressed to see the Swedish high-street chain mixing it up by going down the avant-garde route. As WWD reports, Maison Martin Margiela is the latest guest designer to produce a one-off collection although a spokeswoman for H&M in Stockholm has refused to confirm the rumours.
It was back in 1988 that the French fashion house was founded by the mysterious Monsieur Margiela. He quickly built a reputation as one of the most creative - and press-shy - designers, wowing the Fash Pack with cool, if a bit uncomfortable, catwalk shows, famously minimalist collections and often surreal garments. How could we forget the plastic power shoulders, cleft-toed boots and disco ball armour, par exemple? Well, exactly.
The designer remained notoriously private, refusing to give interviews, avoiding cameras and never taking a catwalk bow. He staged the ultimate disappearing act when he exited his eponymous label in October 2009, losing the right to his own name. Maison Martin Margiela is now controlled by Renzo Rosso, the Italian maestro behind Diesel and DSquared, with the collections being created by an in-house team.
Beloved by fashionistas, MMM clothes are regarded as the ultimate in intellectual style so we're intrigued to see what delights the collab will offer — take a look at the French fashion house's wackiest hits in the gallery above for a clue. While we wait, do let us know: what would YOU like to see from Margiela for H&M?
