Which Designers Will Kate Middleton Turn To For Her Maternity Wear?

03 December 2012 by

Providing the much needed 4pm shot of adrenaline needed at Grazia HQ, news that the Duchess of Cambridge is enceinte immediately got the fashion team wondering, which of K-Middy’s favourite designers will be creating her pregnancy wardrobe.

While none of her current go-to designers offer full on maternity ranges, there are plenty of looks that would work for the Duchess for many months to come. These days most women work in looser cut straight-size pieces along with speciality maternity wear, so we won’t be surprised to see boyfriend cuts and oversized volume featuring in Mrs C’s new closet.

However, we also think the Duchess’ favourite designers will create special one-off pieces which capitalise on their signatures. Take Jenny Packham for example. Known for her flowing gowns with vintage detailing, we can expect dresses with feminine empire waist-lines and pretty embellishment around the décolletage to distract the attention from Kate’s expanding bump. Or Issa's silk jersey twisted dresses - think the sapphire blue dress worn by Duchess on the confirmation of her engagemnt - which will work perfectly to add glamour to her expanding bump.

The Duchess may also choose to turn to specialist maternity brands, including Isabella Oliver, one of the chic-est British brand dedicated to pregnancy wear on the market. And as for her famed love of high and low, we may also see Kate opting for high street maternity wear – our bets are on Topshop’s Baxter skinnies making a royal appearance in the not too distant future. Of course the fact that Kate's favourtie denim brand JBrand also do maternity fit jeans wont have gone unnoticed by our stylish Duchess....
