The announcement of this year’s NEWGEN winners marks out yet another generation of stellar design talent for the capital. The revitalisation of London as a fashion centre over the past decade has been due in part to the support network created for young designer though sponsorship and mentoring programmes like the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN. As a platform it’s helped launch the careers of Christopher Kane, Alexander McQueen and Mary Katrantzou – a pretty impressive alumni.
So what do you need to know about the new names on the roster? Read on to get the full down low....
First up amongst the five labels that have won catwalk support is Simone Rocha. You may very well be familiar with the young Rocha – her designs have generated a storm of interest on both sides of the Atlantic, and she’s proper fashion royalty as daughter of designer John Rocha. Simone’s fresh and youthful designs which often incorporate neon and metallic tones and plastic fabrication are certainly representative of London’s originality.

Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida burst on to the fashion scene with their signature oversized frayed denim pieces. Soon editors and buyers alike were working their lived in look on the FROW.

Sister by Sibing
Making up the Sibling trio, Sid Bryan, Joe Bates and Cozette McCreery have become known for their monster knits and whimsy. With Cara Delevingne opening their A/W 2013 show complete with an oversize bobble hat and scarf, their star is certainly in the ascendant.

Brazilian desinger Lucas Nascimento brings innovatove knitwear techniques to his luxe ladylike collections. Grown-up, chic, but ever so slightly unhinged, his textured dresses and coats cocoon the wearer.

Korean designer Jackie Lee is a master cutter known for her unusal garment construction and soft palettes.With an MA from Central Saint Martins, her minimalist designs have been quietly conquering the London fashion scene.

Other winners of NEWGEN support include 1205 - Paula Gerbase's tailored ready to wear, Nasir Mazhar - London's coolest milliner and Sophia Webster - Nicholas Kirkwood's wildly talented footwear protege. All three of these designers have won presentation support from the BFC. In addition footwear designer Liam Fahy has won Exhibiton support.
