Yesterday 160 Oscar nominees hit the red carpet and posed in front of big gold statues, but before you head into an Oscar frenzy don't panic, you haven’t missed the big day. This was just the Academy Awards Nominations Luncheon - think of it as a fancy dress rehearsal where stars can catch up with the other nominees.
It’s also a chance for us to make a few guesses about what they will wear to the actual Oscars on February 24th. We'd also like to think the stars compare notes about what they’re going to wear over lunch. Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams and Naomi Watts were all at the Oscars warm up, so take a look at their frocks below and see our predictions of what they we can expect with them come Feb 24th.
Anne Hathaway wore a super simple LBD by The Row with strappy heels and Jamie Wolf yellow-gold and diamond stud earrings to the luncheon. It's elegant, yes yes, but it's just a bit boring. You know something’s a little, well, dull when the most exciting thing to talk about is a pink lip.
We were hoping this year we’d see Anne ditch her princessy Oscar style and opt for something edgier to the Oscars, but this simple LBD isn't a great sign of what's to come. C'mon Rachel Zoe listen up, come Feb 24 we want to see Anne in a plunging necklines, interesting fabrics or directional couture. Please anything but a simple block colour gown.
We predict that Jessica will be the brightest star on the red carpet, wearing electric colour. The evidence? At last yesterday's lunch she wore a navy Erdem dress with fuschia and blue embroidered flowers, paired with petal pink lips. She wore pillarbox to the SAGs, sea foam to the Golden Globes and ruby to the Critics' Choice Awards. We know we're not going to catch her in black, but we're non the wiser as to which colour she will actually wear as she's been spotted in every colour from lavender to cobalt to emerald.
Jennifer Lawrence wore a flouncy white strapless Chloé Spring 2013 dress with simple black Casadei pumps with a loose side sweep and a nude lip. It's fresh, summery and light, but perhaps a little too casual for the red carpet? Maybs she'll take an equally laid back approach to the (often stuffy) Oscars. Our guess is it'll be strapless, simple and by Dior. After she accidentally flashed the under layer of mesh of her navy Dior gown at the SAG Awards we can understand J-Law's new simple, basic approach to red carpet.
Naomi was oh-so elegant in black embroidered Valentino with nude Christian Loubs courts yesterday. You can always rely on Naomi to do understated glamour - we're not going to catch her in a pair of Tom Ford bondage gladiator sandals, but we wouldn't want to. She wore a burgundy Zac Posen gown to the Golden Globes, while she wore a black Emilio Pucci gown with a peek-a-boo mesh insert to the Critics' Choice Awards. Our predictions are a reworked black gown or a classic nude fishtail with her hair in loose curls.
Amy Adams wore a floral purple print J Mendel gown to the luncheon from the Spring 2013 collection, and we predict she will be sticking to her signature girly style at the Oscars. If anyone would wear ditsy florals at the actual Oscars it would be Amy. She wore a nude Marchesa tulle fishtail to the Golden Globes, while she opted for navy and white Vionnet to the Critics' Choice Awards. Label check? She's likely to grace the red carpet in frothy Marchesa, Elie Saab or Oscar de la Renta probably choosing girly sparkles, florals or tulle.
