When it was announced back in November that J.W. Anderson was teaming up with the young and rebellious sister of Versace, aka: Versus, we were intruiged to see his take on the animal-tastic print and gold chains. The designer gave a few clues about what we could expect via Instagram, posting Bruce Weber Versus ads from the '90s as well as retro logos. But the wait is finally over! Last night, at the Versace store in New York, Donatella and J.W. hosted a preview of their first collection.

Donatella spoke to WWD at the preview and revealed that at first she didn't think J Dubs was a Versus boy. ‘He’s not for me,’ said Versace. 'Then I went back and said, ‘Wait a minute, this guy has something.’ He’s a great talent. Genius.' The platinumn haired designer said that when she was given Versus it was a time of rebellion and a time to be fearless, and that 'this is how I feel right now again.' Here are the 10 new things we've learned about the new Versus collection...
1. 'The message has to be short and precise, like Twitter'
Donatella thinks that 'The Internet is the new house of fashion,' so the 26 pieces from the new Versus collection are available to buy on versus.versace.com.
2. It is packed with Versus signatures
...including animal-tastic monochrome prints, flash-fleshing pieces and gold embellishments.
3. The bright pink, yellow and orange knits are Versace's influence
'I love the wrongness of pink and orange and the cheapness of it,' said J.W. about his electric colour palette. 'Something that feels a bit borderline is always the best because it’s wrong.'
4. The Versus man wears crop tops
5. Anderson brings his unisex aesthetic to Versus
Tight knits, saftey pins and crop tops also find their way into the men's collection.'Unisex is the most modern thing that a lot of people do not touch on,' said Anderson to WWD. 'The whole collection has to feel jarred....I think there’s a sharpness of the bridging of the [male and female]. When something is ugly and wrong, I feel that it’s right. You’re not used to it.'
6. JW Anderson has been studying the archives
There are plenty of core Versus elements - safety pins, gold lion buttons and black and white.
7. Hello gold safety pins!
'This is [the] core collection,' Donatella tells WWD.
8. And the accessories?
It's all about geometric rings, gold chained phone cases and a LOT of white boots.
9. The collection is totally wearable - apart from the crop tops
Donatella comments that J.W. 'sees everything together — the provocative, the daring, but also how they’ll wear it.'
10. And J.W. Anderson reminds Donatella of her brother Gianni
Donatella commented 'He is not afraid to dare, he is not afraid to provoke. He’s not afraid of a mistake,' said Versace. 'It’s very like my brother — if you criticize less, you’re safe. I hate that word. I hate that way of thinking.'
