Think polo style and you think wide-brimmed hats, dainty sandals and pretty printed frocks, right? Well, think again because this weekend, a couple of style mavericks ditched the traditional dress code. Yes, the Sixth Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo in New York took place on Saturday and offered up a few surprises...
Ever experimental, Ashley Olsen stayed true to her boho chic by throwing on an embellished kaftan-style dress in a rich red hue. Her hair was scraped into a centre-parted, fuss-free bun while on the accessories front, the diddy designer opted for a pair of flat studded sandals, trademark sunnies, a few bangles with matching ring and a divine boxy white clutch. She also appears to be getting in on the increasingly popular nipple action too. It's certainly not the usual ensemble you'd expect for a spot of horse play, eh? And yet we can't enough of that Indian summer style.
Thinking along the same lines as Ash was the delectable Dree Hemingway. The New York model oozed laid-back cool in her summer-light boilersuit which - as you know - are all the rage this season. She added a sexy touch by pulling the zipper down to flash a hint of cleavage and funked up the look with uber-cool accessories, from a daisy ring to a cheeky clutch and mega heels. Also: we want those sunnies!
Alex Wek and Anne V
In the more traditional corner, we have Alex Wek who looked sunshine-perfect in her stripey thigh-high frock with pointy sandals and a floppy hat while her fellow model Anne V looked as fresh as a daisy in her sporty white frock with a pleated skirt topped off with heels glitzy enough for the catwalk.
The McConaugheys and Julia Restoin Roitfeld
We reserve a special mention for the McConaugheys, however, who matched the colour scheme of the event perfectly. Camila Alves - aka: Mrs McConaughey - opted for a juicy, form-fitting bandage dress in a summery lemon yellow while her Hollywood hubby scrubbed up handsomely in a white suit complete with waistcoat. And last but not least is Julia Restoin Roitfeld who nailed polo perfection in her summery floral sundress with pea green wedges and lashings of brunette locks. Talk about a yummy mummy!
