So the Met Ball 2013, the only red carpet with more diamonds and ostentatious couture than the Oscars, is hitting NYC on Monday night and to prepare we have rounded up all that you can expect from this year's bash. In case you don't know, this year the theme is punk, to tie in with the Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibit.
Discover everything you could possibly need to know about the ball, from who will perform to how you can get involved below...
1. Shop the red carpet
If you like any of the safety pinned, tartan creations you see on the red carpet (and have a healthy bank balance) then you can buy them thanks to Moda Operandi's Spotlight project. Designers such as Balmain, Rodarte, Nina Ricci and Wes Gordon have signed up to allow you to order their gowns as soon as they hit the Met steps.
2. Will Rooney Mara keep her cool?
This year's co-chair Rooney Mara will certainly look the part thanks to her edgy micro fringe and weakness for fashion-forward couture, but there is one teeny tiny problem. She hates the red carpet. She recently described them as a 'panic attack waiting to happen.'
3. Kim Kardashian will get her Cinderella moment
Kim Kardashian was rumoured to have been excluded from last year's ball due to ice queen Anna Wintour's strict guestlist. But this year the Costume Institute Gala's very own Cinderella may get to go to the ball after all thanks to her prince charming. Kanye West is rumoured to be performing which we would assume gives Kim and the Kimyembryo a ticket.
But if she does get through Wintour's henchmen guarding the entrance, it could be a case of 'should I stay or should I go' for Kim K after the negative press surrounding her maternity style. What would six months preggers Kim wear? Will the Kouple go matchy matchy in Givenchy? Our advice to you Kim is please, please stay away from the leather.
4. We're all invited... kind of
For the second year running we can also stand on the Met steps thanks to the wonders of live streaming. Vogue's William Norwich and Hilary Rhoda will be hosting the show, where you can watch the red carpet arrivals and see interviews with all the co-chairs including Rooney Mara, Riccardo Tisci, Lauren Santo Domingo and Anna Wintour. All you need to do is log onto Moda Operandi, Vogue, Samsung, or the Metropolitan Museum, where you can watch the whole thing from midnight UK time (that's 7pm in New York).
5. Will Katy Perry be the biggest punk of all?
Right now, our money is on Ms Katy Perry as she told The Cut: 'I can't give too much away, but I picked it out right when it debuted on the runway. I contacted the designer right away. I've known I'd wear it for a couple of months now. It will definitely be me. Let's just say, I'll be an original punk. I love a theme!' Well she did once wear a light up frock to the Gala, so we believe in ya K Pez.
6. Who is going with who
Thanks to Mr Eric Wilson at the New York Times we have some idea of this year's fashion dates. So far we know that Solange Knowles is going with Carol Lim and Humberto Leon of Kenzo, Lily Cole is going with punk icon Vivienne Westwood and Marion Cotillard and Jennifer Lawrence are going with Dior. Julianne Moore is reported to be wearing a custom Balenciaga Alexander Wang creation, while Gwyneth Paltrow is rumoured to be coming with Valentino. Elle and Dakota will walk up the steps with Rodarte sisters, Kate and Laura Mulleavy, Allison Williams will come with Joseph Altuzarra and Emma Roberts will wear Diane Von Fustenberg. Oh and Rooney Mara might wear Givenchy seeing as she is chairing the event with Riccardo Tisci. Got it?
7. Who will do a Liz Hurley?
Surely someone has sweet talked Donatella into unlocking the Versace archives and lending them a vintage safety-pinned frock like Elizabeth Hurley's. It got an outting last year when Lady Gaga wore it in Milan and the original is on display in the exhibition. It would be the perfect punk look to copy for someone craving some serious column inches.
8. Anna Wintour might do the Gangnam Style
Although it has been widely reported that Kanye West will perform, no artists have been confirmed so far. Beyoncé might do a punk cover and K Pop King Psy is rumoured to be performing as he is a guest of event sponsor Samsung. Oh please, please, PLEASE let us see Anna Wintour doing the Gangnam horse step.
9. Mr Galliano is skipping the event
Mr Galliano, a true punk-ster, is skipping the Met Ball this year even though his clothes are included in the exhibition. According to his publicist this is because he needs to slowly re-emerse himself in the fashion world, which means no flashbulb frenzies and worshipping at Anna Wintour's feet. In her words: 'One step at a time … and that’s one huge mother f*****’ staircase.' We'll have to wait till Monday night to see who else was put off by the 154 feet long staircase.
10. What will Beyonce do?
So we know that Queen Bey is taking a night off from her tour to hit the Met Gala as she is an 'honoury co-chair.' But we have no idea what this actually means. Will she perform? Walk the red carpet? Stand at the top of the steps hand in hand with Anna Wintour?
