We Imagine What Christopher Kane’s First It Bag Will Look Like

Ever since Christopher Kane announced that game-changing investment package – with Kering (formerly known as PPR) taking a 51% stake in his label – his fans have been waiting with bated breath for news of what’s to come.  Finally the man himself has spoken to our friends over at WWD and in the best news we’ve heard all week, Mr Kane has highlighted his desire to create a Christopher Kane It Bag.

Kane told WWD, “We’re building a strong archive, a strong heritage, and that is so exciting, especially for the future prospect of leather goods. I’d love to see a Christopher Kane bag, a staple bag that could carry on for five years, 10 years. We have a rich archive of leathers and fabrics that could easily fall into a bag category.”

Christopher Kane Collection Clutches

So what could this leather bag look like? Kane is known for his of the moment handheld hits – think the squidgy gel clutches and laser cut lace neon pouches. Kane’s bags essentially reflect the collection of the season rather than standing apart as a timeless, carry-all. This season’s mini Frankenstein is a good case in point – an amazing piece of fashion history to own and superb for street style, but not perhaps your first port of call if you were looking for a classic tote to invest in.

The Fash Pack Love Kane's Quirky Collection Clutches

However from what the Scottish designers says above, we can presume that the Christopher Kane staple bag will be more than a one season wonder. He also mentions leather fabrication and a design which will have the longevity to last 5-10 years. While we can’t imagine Kane offering anything pedestrian, you can surmise that the design will be toned down in comparison to the squidgeys. Kane mentions the archive of leathers and fabrics on which he has built his heritage, so we reckon the following materials may be involved in the new tote.

1. Floral Embroidered Leather

Now we know he said it’s for every day, but if there is anything more beautiful than Kane’s embroidered  flowers on leather from his A/W 2010 line we haven’t seen it yet. Perhaps he could offer mini embroideries to make it more durable – and just imagine the colourway possibilities. – lilac leather and bluebells, or jet black skin with scarlet red poppies. We want them all already.

2. Leopard Leather

Purple leopard printed leather as seen at his A/W 2012 collection is quintessential Christopher Kane – seriously luxurious but right on the boarder of taste-levels. A rainbow of leather leopard prints could soon be haunting our retail dreams.

3. Laser Cut Leather

Kane’s S/S 2011 line will be forever remembered for being the “Princess Margaret on acid,” collection, and who could forget the stellar lace lasered leathers? We’ve seen the look in neon shades, but we’d die to pick up a style in everyday black, burgundy or navy. Chic!

4. Crochet Printed Leather

How much did we all love Kane’s A/W 2011 leather crochet printed pencil skirts and coats? While that collection will be remembered for the squidgy gel accents, we thing there is something seriously stealth about Kane’s crochets. They could of course be adapted to all manner of stichwork prints from pearled knits to pretty bobbin lace prints. We call it a future collector’s edition.

5. Embossed Leather

Mr Kane proved his mastery of leather with his S/S 2013 Frankenstein inspired collection. Floral motifs were embossed on black and white leathers bringing us the Giant and Baby Frankenstein bags, both complete with Perspex bolted handles. We could so go for some more embossed leather, just in case you are listening Christopher!
