We hadn’t realized quite how much we’d missed last summer’s Olympics – until today looking at pictures of the one and only Jessica Ennis grinning as she married her childhood sweetheart Andy Hills in a monumentally ruffly Monique Lhuillier gown. Bellissima!
The gold-medal winning heptathlete got engaged on Christmas Eve 2010 but put her wedding plans on hold to compete in London 2012. Ever since she lifted those gold medals though, Jess has made no secret of the fact she’d become a bridezilla planning every little detail of her wedding. But it clearly paid off – because Jess couldn’t stop smiling as she walked out of the Derbyshire church with her new husband, Andy.
The bride had arrived at the church, close to where the couple met and grew up, with four bridesmaids and her dad, who walked her down the aisle. Guests sang hymns Love Divine and To God Be The Glory before the couple exited the church to a rendition of The Beatles tune All You Need Is Love.
The dress, which came from Brown's Bride, was both romantic and modern, and perfectly suited Jessica's toned frame. The athlete has spoken of how emotional she found choosing it. ‘It was the best day of my life because you never try dresses on like that, do you? It’s very special,' she has said. Very special indeed.
