While the world may have gone a little mad when Vogue put Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on its April cover, they weren't the only magazines in hot pursuit of brand Kimye. Vanity Fair and Harper's Bazaar were also after Ms Kardashian, in particular Harper's, with whom Kim had been in serious talks since the autumn.
But unsurprisingly, both parties are keeping pretty schtum about the situation now. When asked about the potential February cover by WWD, the special projects editor of Harper's Bazaar Laura Brown said simply:
"Kim and Kanye are the greatest example of conscious coupling. We wish them all the best."

But fear not, that's not all we have to go off. The rumour mill is in full swing, with reports saying that the pitch made by the Harper's Bazaar editor in chief Glenda Bailey included a beauty shot of Kardashian for the cover, alongside a spread, all shot by fashion's NSFW photographer Terry Richardson. If the Kardashian/Richardson collab for Lipsy last year is anything to go by, it sounds like it could have been HOT. But Kim didn't fancy it in the end, reportedly because "Glenda doesn't go to the shoots". At Vogue, Kardashian was able to work with her long-time heroine Grace Coddington.
With Harper's out of the picture, Vanity Fair had a crack at the reality TV darling. As with Vogue, VF opted for Annie Leibovitz as photographer, but an insider says the cover never got off the ground because the magazine's editorial team was split over whether Kardashian should even be on the front of the mag.

In any case, it all came to an end when the news began to trickle through in early 2014 that Kim and Kanye were being shot for US Vogue in the April edition. Despite the backlash, some have come out in support of the cover, most recently Kelly Osbourne:
"I find this [backlash] disgusting. Regardless of whether or not you think Kim and Kanye are worthy enough to be on the cover...it's not your decision to make. I do believe that would be up to Editor Anna Wintour. ''So back off, stop sh*tting on people's dreams that have come true and try for once to be happy for others' success. Stop raining on their parade!" Wowsers Kelly. Err, what she said.
