Bring On The Wacktacular Gowns! Viktor & Rolf Return To Couture Fashion Week

News just in from Amsterdam: the lovely guys behind Viktor & Rolf have just announced that they will be returning to the Haute Couture schedule. What a treat! The design house joins Giambattista Valli, Elie Saab, Valentino, Versace and Armani as a Correspondent Member in the Haute Couture schedule, an honour which is reserved for foreign couturiers - ie: those who are not based in France.

Viktor & Rolf Return To Couture

Viktor & Rolf Autumn Winter 2010

Rewind to 1997 when Viktor & Rolf first appeared on the Couture schedule for their Spring Summer 1998 show. The avant-garde design house showed a further four collections with the final being for Autumn Winter 2000, which was presented in Paris. The Atomic Bomb collection featured dramatic mushroom cloud-like cushioned necklines and let's not forget the Russion Doll extravanganza when the designers dressed model Maggie Rizer in 10 layers of clothes in a show that merged fashion with performance art.

After their graduation from the Arnhem Academy of Art and Design in 1992, Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren became famous for their provocative couture and conceptual glamour. Over twenty years later and the fashion label has grown worldwide with an unconventional approach to craftsmanship that's guaranteed to entertain the FROW. Speaking of which, Katy Perry made an apperance at the Autumn Winter 2012 show in march last year when she caused a commotion dressed as a smurf in head-to-toe blue. Award-winning actresses Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain have also become firm V&R fans. Does this mean we'll be seeing them gracing the Couture shows in support? We can but hope.

Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain love a bit of V&R

It's been no less than 13 years since the design duo showed a Couture collection so you can bet the world is itching to see what they'll come up with. With trademark outfits like the one formed out of a zillion mens' collars and ties or a catwalk show where model Kristen McMenamy wore 20 outfits all at once, we would be disappointed if they came out with something bland or sensible. See some of our favourite V&R ensembles in the gallery below. You've got to love those Dutch designers!
