Watch our behind-the-scenes video from the Burberry show
What a lot of fun we had at the Burberry show yesterday! It was certainly the most exciting moment on the London Fashion Week schedule thanks to a line-up of top-notch models (Cara, Suki, Jourdan...) and a mega starry front row. Yes, Bradley Cooper sat alongside Anna Wintour to watch his lady love hit the catwalk, Paloma Faith sang the soundtrack LIVE and Miss Delevingne led the model army. Oh, there was a dose of Harry Styles mania just for good measure.
Ever wondered how the Burberry show all comes together? What the FROW-ers are thinking? What the catwalkers get up to backstage? Well, as luck would have it, we were there to film the whole shebang from the beauty preperations to a post-show interview with Mr Christopher Bailey himself. As part of our Fashion Week 360 mission, bringing you the shows from every angle, we captured the red carpet arrivals, the catwalk action AND the backstage chats especially for you...
On the red carpet with the stars
It was on the red carpet that we bumped into a host of dreamy Burberry boys, from Bradley Cooper to Harry Styles and his impressively quiffy hair. We spoke to campaign star Jamie Campbell-Bower about how it feels to follow in the footsteps of such a style legend as Romeo Beckham. 'Oh man, I mean that is hard,' the cheeky chap said. 'As you can see the nose ring is obviously part of his look now, he just takes it out when he’s outside.'
We also met actress Naomie Harris, fresh off the BAFTAs red carpet the night before. So who's her favourite Burberry babe? 'Jourdan Dunn. We're friends, I've known her for a while.' Who knew! And it's not just La Dunn who Naomie is loving. 'I think Christopher Bailey is such a brilliant designer and is a great man as well,' she says of the brand's creative director and CEO. 'He is a good human being, I want to be here to support him.'
Backstage with the Burberry babes
After the show, we snuck backstage to find BFFs Suki Waterhouse and Cara Delevingne gossipingg together under their custom-made Burberry ponchos. 'It sounds cheesy but it really is a dream come true,' Suki said of making her debut on the Burbs catwalk. 'It was always what I wanted to do from the start.’ As for the atmosphere backstage she said: 'It’s really calm before – I think because it’s such a high standard everyone is really relaxed.’
As for the lady who opened - and closed - the show, Cara told us how exciting it was to stomp the catwalk while being serenaded by a live performance. 'I love it, it's great. Paloma is absolutely amazing. When I was walking at the end I was like, "Babe!" She's breaking my heart.' With the likes of Bradley and Harry on the FROW, does she ever get distracted? 'You're supposed to have girders on like a horse. You don't see anything beyond the ending point.' What a pro.
Christopher Bailey talks us through the inspiration
‘I’ve been looking at the Bloomsbury group - so Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell, Roger Frine, Duncan Grant - and I like the idea that everything in the house where they all either lived or congregated was painted or woven,' the man behind the glorious creations told us. 'It was all about pattern and texture so what I wanted to do was get that same feeling in the collection. All the bags, all the shoes, all the belts, all the leather coats and the shearling coats were all hand painted and I like that idea of individuality that everything is a little one off'. Cara and Suki were certainly delighted with their monogram ponchos.
Paloma Faith on being Burberry's singing bird
What an honour to perform at the Burberry show! We asked Paloma Faith about what it was like to go from the FROW to the catwalk in just one season. 'Christopher really liked my music,' she told us. 'He's so so nice and kind. You can tell he's a really sensitive soul, so I think he likes emotional, emotive music.' And it seems Paloma has a bit of a model crush... 'I like Cara because she's so fun and nice to see. She's a good person.' We can't argue with that!
