Rumours have been circulating for months that Victoria Beckham is opening her first ever store in London and now it's official. You might think that she'd go the tried and tested route with some Bond Street gloss - but oh no! Victoria has confirmed to WWD that she is taking over number 36, Dover Street. VB said of the news: 'I think the time is now because I know my customer.' As for the location, she explains: 'It's young and cool. There are great galleries in the area. There's Dover Street Market directly opposite of us, which is not a bad thing.'
As for the store, VB has enlisted architect Farshid Moussavi - who worked on the 2012 London Olympic Park - to give the 7,000 sq ft space a VB makeover. Victoria explained why she hired Farshid to WWD: 'She is a woman that loves fashion as well. She has quite a conceptual eye, which I like. We want to make something different without making it overly complicated. I just want it to feel real for me.' We imagine the three storey building is getting a dramatic makeover, as VB says she plans on 'drilling a massive hole through the middle.' No word if Vic will be putting on a hard hat and getting stuck in with the planning.
The store will open in Autumn and will house all of her collections, including Victoria Beckham, Victoria Victoria Beckham, denim, optical and accessories. We could do some serious damage to our credit history in there!
It's all go for Victoria Beckham this year as she is also opening a New York office. 'I want to focus on the U.S. this year,' the designer explains. 'To take it to the next level, I need a team on the ground living and breathing everything here in America.' Plus there is her Skype Collaboration Project, where her working life is captured on film.
Victoria added: 'I’m always so busy moving on to the next thing and I always want to do better than the previous season. I’m very ambitious and we move at such at a fast pace, so what’s great about Skype is actually looking back at our story. I get emotional actually watching it.'
