You may have noticed a little trend for sportswear, dotted around the streets over the last few seasons. OK, heck, it’s a major thing. Every third editor, stylist, fashionista worth their salt are wearing their favourite Nike Free Runs or New Balance with just about anything –skirts, boyfriends jeans, the laciest of dresses or, inevitably, joggers. ‘Sports Luxe’ is a look that has long served the catwalk from Alexander Wang to Calvin Klein and Victoria Beckham – but it’s the real McCoy stuff that is being seen on the street everywhere now too. With the much hyped recent return of Adidas’ Stan Smith plimsolls, it’s clear that we’re all craving those cult originals.
Needless to say, Topshop have their well talloned fashion fingers firmly on the pulse and have collaborated with classic sports line Adidas Originals and this pic they've released is just the beginning.
They’ve added their directional slant to the classics of course, as Kate Phelan, Topshop’s Creative Director, told WWD that the collection aims to bring some “femininity” to Adidas Originals’ sports designs, designed to be worn both as a fashion and sports range.
And that they have: we like the sound of the super tailored and slim fitting three-stripe track pants and leather and print sneakers (they’ve reworked three of the brand’s classic shoes: the Superstar, the Tech Super and the Attitude).
Topshop’s collaborations are always seriously sought after, so be sure to have your fingers ready on March 20th when the range launches online at Topshop.com. It will appear across a selection of UK Topshop stores too and in 80 Adidas stores internationally. We’ve been reminiscing about some of the older collaborations (and also kicking ourselves over the pieces we missed – erm, that Richard Nicoll white slip? Why is that not ours???).
