As Marc Jacobs Takes To The Silver Screen, We Review The Best Designer Acting Cameos

06 March 2013 by

Yesterday we brought you the news that Marc Jacobs was making his film debut, acting in the film Disconnect alongside Jason Bateman and Andrea Riseborough. Our Marc plays a producer of online underage porn, acting as a surrogate parent to the wayward teens he takes in. Yep this is serious stuff -  no Ugly Betty cameo.

Marc Jacobs the actor got us thinking about other designers who have tried a hand at acting, but most have opted for more light and fluffy Devil Wears Prada type roles, as opposed to gritty thrillers like MJ. Victoria Beckham was one of our favourite cameos of all time when she appeared on Ugly Betty with Vera Wang as Wilhelmina Slater's made of honour. She screams 'Major,' does a booty bump with Vera Wang and Marc calls her the 'perfect spice.' It's so very fash-wan.

Vera Wang also made a cameo in Gossip Girl, giving Blair Wardorf the perfect princess Wang wedding. Rachel Zoe also popped into the Upper East Side, where she got covered in chocolate fondue sauce at Blair's birthday and delivered the killer line 'I die.'

Dolce & Gabbana have acted TWICE as they appeared in in Nine and Woody Allen's To Rome With Love. The D&G boys spoke exclusively to Grazia Daily about starring in Woody Allen's film and revealed: 'It was an honour to be asked to do a cameo in the Woody Allen movie, To Rome With Love. We're both passionate about film and it was an incredible surprise to receive Woody's phone call. We're in awe of Woody's work and to be on set, especially in our hometown of Rome, was an experience we'll never forget!'

Now we move from the kinda serious to the bizarre... who could forget Karl Lagerfeld's shock camero in Snoop Dogg's video St Tropez? The video opens with King Karl dressed in head to toe white up in the clowds telling French DJ Roch 'You were never told that Saint-Tropez is paradise?' Sadly he didn't make it down from heaven to the beach to show us his dance moves with Snoop.

Look through the designers who have had a go at acting in the gallery above and then watch Ms Beckham play, erm, herself in Ugly Betty below...
