The princess of geek chic Zooey Deschanel has made many a cute red carpet appearance over the awards season – think that Oscar de la Renta crop top and sequinned tulle skirt at the Golden Globes. So it’s little wonder that the New Girl leading lady has been tapped by fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger to design and front a new capsule collaboration, ‘To Tommy, From Zooey’, for the American brand.
Replete with Zooey’s signature flirty-vintagey-girlish vibe, the collection consists of 16 pretty dresses. Mr Hilfiger explained the tie-in to WWD saying he had met the actress at a mutual friend’s house in Santa Monica, “She was wearing this vintage jumpsuit,” said the designer. “I complimented her on it, and she told me how she loved vintage. Somehow, the conversation went from loving vintage to possibly doing a capsule collection with her.” Zooey appealed to the brand because, “We always try to ascertain whether or not someone is a ‘Tommy girl,’” Hilfiger continued. “She is the epitome of it — all-American, youthful, fun and funny, yet she has a sophistication and worldliness to her that’s quite endearing. She is easy to get along with and she is quite involved. She really knows what she likes and what she doesn’t like.”
Each of the dresses has a sixties style feeling and will retail in Macy’s stores, priced between $98 and $199 from 14th April. Zooey will also star in the campaign for the collection, showcasing her perfect little shirt dresses and several designs in the label’s iconic palette of red, white and blue.
