Karl Lagerfeld's New Muse: Tilda Swinton Works Her Scottish Chic For Chanel Paris-Edinburgh Campaign

Oscar winning actress Tilda Swinton has landed a new role, as Karl Lagerfeld's new muse. As she is the face of the 2012-13 Métiers d'Art Paris-Edinburgh collection, that was shown back in December at Linlithgow Palace (the birthplace of Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots). You might remember it as the one where Cara Delevingne, Edie Campbell and Stella Tennant wore tartan.

Tilda Swinton comes from an Anglo-Scots family and with her otherworldly look and porcelain skin she is the perfect casting for Karl's Scottish collection, which was inspired by Mary Queen of Scots. Karl said of the Brit: 'Tilda perfectly embodies the Paris-Edimbourg collection. She is of course Scottish, but more than that she is a modern woman, a timeless icon of elegance.' So he's a fan then.

This isn't the first time Karl has photographed Tilds, as he first shot her when she was filming Orlando, and shot her for his exhibition 'The Little Black Jacket.' For the Chanel shoot he photographed her earlier this month in the Château d’Ecouen, a Renaissance castle near Chantilly, France.

We spoke to Karl Lagerfeld at the show back in December and he told Grazia Daily: 'I love Mary Queen of Scots and I love Scotland.” But he admitted he’d never actually been there before. 'I’ve been working the whole time but I like what I’ve seen from my hotel window. The city looks very beautiful. But you know I’m not a tourist. I’m not into sightseeing. I like how I think a place is. I don’t have to see what it actually is.'

Karl obviously has a thing for a quirky Brit as he has previously chosen Alice Dellal and Lily Allen as the face of Chanel. But Tilda isn't the first person that springs to mind when you think of a Chanel girl, not least because she's usually working an androgynous Haider Ackerman suit on the red carpet rather than a frothy ballgown, strings of pearls and a camelia brooch. She has, however, been seen on many a Chanel front row and was snapped at the tuileries with Karl back in May at the Chanel 2012/13 Cruise Collection.

While Dior have bagged the hot new thing in Hollywood (that's Jennifer Lawrence, FYI) for their campaign, we're equally delighted to see Karl backing an older generation Brit. Tilda is without a doubt the muse of the week, as she has already been in the spotlight for starring cast in Bowie's new music video.
