It was way back in November 2010 when it was first announced that Carey Mulligan would star as heroine Daisy Buchanan in director Baz Lurhmann's feature film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s literary masterpiece The Great Gatsby and still, nearly three years later, the much-hyped movie has not even been released in theatres. That's all about to change on May 15th when Gatsby debuts in 3D on the first night of this year's Cannes Film Festival schedule. As we were initially expecting the production to hit cinemas in December 2012, we're more excited than ever to drool over leading man Leonardo DiCaprio as troubled central character Jay Gatsby, feast our eyes on Carey's flapper girl costumes - a lot of which were created exclusively by Miuccia Prada - and tap our feet along to the film's score featuring music by none other that Mr Beyonce himself, US rapper Jay-Z.
Lurhmann revealed "It is a great honour for all those who have worked on The Great Gatsby to open the Cannes Film Festival,. F. Scott Fitgerald wrote some of the most poignant and beautiful passages of his extraordinary novel just a short distance away at a villa outside St. Raphael." So it was worth the wait then - especially if Carey's French Rivera wardrobe is half as good as we're expecting it to be!

The actress has been a long-time fan of Prada, having worn designs from the Italian fashion house to the Met Ball 2012 in May last year - which later sold for charity on eBay For £1,860 - and her wedding to hubby Marcus Mumford. Combine this with the fact that Miuccia Prada, who previously worked with Luhrmann on Romeo & Juliet, has reportedly selected 40 items from the Prada and Miu Miu archive to be adapted for the film it would surely be weird if Mulligan didn't pull Prada out the bag during her Cannes promotional extravaganza. We're picturing the two looks above from Prada's Autumn Winter 2013 collection as arrival options.
For the red carpet what about one of these to sexy silken looks from Miu Miu's Spring Summer 2013 presentation. Or perhaps Carey will stay true to the era of the film and choose vintage pieces from the Prada archive!
