Will Marc Jacobs pip Proenza Schouler to the womenswear designer of the year title? Is Vera Wang going to deliver a totally emotional speech on accepting her lifetime achievement gong? Lady Gaga's Acceptance Speech at the 2011 CFDAs
Since 1981 this has been an opportunity to not only celebrate the best of American fashion talent, but too ogle over the rarefied darlings of this world and their (probably meticulously planned) outfit choices. The dress code is far less grand than the Met Ball, so gowns are not a necessity (even if SJP prefers to make that kind of entrance) – and there’s no theme either. So it’s free range fashion roaming for the best dressed in town. Cocktail dresses, jumpsuits, whatever tickles the VIP’s in question is OK by Wintour & Co.
To get you in the mood we’ve trawled the archives to bring you a compendium of classic fashion moments from the CFDAs of yore. From Liza Minneli in head-to-toe red (including tights), to Manolo Blahnik in a Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss sandwich, SJP in hotpants, and much much more. Scroll through the gallery below….
