FIRST LOOK: Hussein Chalayan Unveils His Demi-Couture Collection For Vionnet

22 January 2014 by

One of the many exciting changes in the fashion house of cards was debuted today: we got to see Hussein Chalayan’s first demi-couture collection for Vionnet at the Couture shows in le fashionable Paris. And isn’t it a beaut…

Earlier this month we predicted simplicity of line, tailoring precision and beautiful craftsmanship but who knew his architectural designs could sum-up the idea of demi-couture so perfectly.

Oh-so-fine pinstripes joined with delicate newspaper print-like florals whilst uber-light gauzey dresses were laser-cut for a futurist look. Meanwhile pleated tulle gowns, fit for a black-tie benefit, were suspended on large crystal hooks or flattened to the chest with fine geometric prints and shapes and strips of black leather fed througout - architecturally constructed couture met with a little bit of sports luxe and feel in loooove. In a palette of lemon, grey, coral and monochrome we were transported to an opera in outta space but with the most delicate and moth-like touches throughout.

Vionnet’s chairwoman and creative director, Goga Ashkenazi launched their first demi-couture range this time last year – it was soft, grey, gradient and beautiful – but we love Chalayan’s avant-garde stamp that we’ve come to expect from his genius creations. Ashkanazi was clearly thrilled too: 'I'm extremely happy about this collaboration because I think that Hussein is a supertalented, forward-thinking designer,' she told WWD before the collection was unveiled. We have a feeling the fashion press will also agree.
