Swimwear Model Secrets! What We Learned At Calzedonia's Glitzy Show In Verona

Calzedonia's SS14 Swim Show, Verona

We've just returned from the sunny climes of gelato-filled Verona - the home of star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. We ate divine spreads of cold meats and quashed Prosecco, enjoyed a catwalk of hot bods in swimwear and grilled the industry's finest on how they keep their bodies swim-ready. Let's just say, Proscuitto was not one of their tips. Oh well.

Sara Sampaio

We caught up with Victoria's Secret and Sports Illustrated model Sara Sampaio backstage for her third season as the face of the brand. The New York-based model's swim-body rules include 'sucking it all in!', not eating pizza every day and working out with her personal trainer twice a week 'I'm lucky with my metabolism, I'm not gonna lie!' she told Grazia Daily. Helpful! But she did tell us her new fitness obsession is 'SLT'. Short for Strenghten, Lengthen and Tone, 'it's like Pilates on a Megaformer machine - it's the perfect workout for a bikini body!' On the beach the brunette beauty opts for triangle bikinis in bright colours, the smaller the better, 'seriously, I like them to be tiny, Brazilian, everything… when I'm with my friends I just go topless as I really hate tan-lines'. Well we can kinda see why...

Megan Williams

British-born and Surrey-bred model Megan Williams is signed to Storm London. She's been working with Calzedonia and Intimissimi for two years. She's also a firm SLT convert (annoyingly we don't seem to have this over in the UK yet, but like most fitness trends they start in NY and quickly wing their way over - in the meantime we are definitely hitting up our nearest Pilates machines): 'It's really good for what we need for our bodies - creating length and muscle-tone - and it's way more fun than going to the gym'. As for beauty she favours Dr Haushka rose products and Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser 'because it's so light and natural'. On the beach Williams, opts for a bandeau bikini (a model's got to stay away from those tan lines) 'but if I was going to a beach party I'd wear a really fabulous cut-out one piece like the black mesh number I wear in the show, or those Herve Leger bandage costumes'.

Bip Ling

Self-named 'friend of Calzedonia', blogger and model Bip Ling was at the show too, wearing her favourite leggings from the brand. Along with holding customising workshops in Calzedonia's Westfield store (she loves anything where she can paint!), she's blogging, 'mooching' (so says her first music video) and creating music. 'I'm trying to find the right producers to work with - the next song is a poem to Mooch, my cartoon character on the blog. I'm working on the sound at the moment but would love to do more music - it's just another way of working on my ideas.' On her awesome white Louis Vuitton platforms she says 'they're so comfy, I think I'm going to be in them all summer'.

And as a parting note, it turns out Italian swimwear shows feature male models too. We're organising our next trip already!
