Swedish Royal Wedding: Princess Madeleine Marries In A Valentino Dress

08 June 2013 by

It’s Royal Wedding Day again – well in Sweden at least. Today Princess Madeleine, who is fourth in the line to the Swedish throne, married American financier Chris O’Neill in a stunning Valentino gown.

The couple met three years ago when Madeleine left Sweden for New York after breaking off her engaged with lawyer Jonas Bergstrom. The pair got engaged in October 2012 and the Swedish Royal Family have been planning the Royal Wedding ever since. Over 400 guests were invited today to the Dorttningholm Palace, where Madeleine were born, for celebrations that are expected to go on late into the night. Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, are representing the UK’s Royal Family.

The pair are expected to return home to New York after the wedding, where Madeleine keeps a low profile. She was once dubbed the ‘Party Princess’ by the Swedish press because during her 20’s she was often spotted out in Stockholm’s clubs.

Princess Madeleine isn’t the only famous bride to choose a Valentino wedding dress. The Italian designer made Jackie Kennedy’s wedding dress for her second wedding dress, as well as Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece’s pearl-embellished gown and, most recently, Anne Hathaway’s soft pink number.
