Stephen Jones Transforms Barbie With Five Festive Looks This Christmas

That Barbie has had more reinventions that Madonna and Lady Gaga combined. In 2011 she made our heads spin with a Dalston makeover by Bleach salon, while the following year she took on the Duchess of Cambridge in the style stakes, but her latest look comes courtesy of Stephen Jones who has created five festive costumes for the plastic fantastic wonder woman just in time for Christmas.

Not for the faint hearted, the British milliner's Barbie characters include 'Happy Holly Barbie', complete with fishtail frock, 'Toffee Ice Barbie' - AKA the one wearing antlers - and 'Christmas Tree Barbie' - a stylish replacement for your Christmas tree angel in residence. There's also 'Snow Globe Barbie' - a cross between Marilyn Monroe and an astronaut - and finally, 'Santa Baby Barbie', whose fantasy cocktail dress is constructed out of a Santa hat.

Jones told us, “Barbie lights up my life! You can’t have a Christmas collection without having a Christmas tree. I also thought if you can’t be the fairy on top of the tree, why not just create a Christmas tree on your head.” He added, "Barbie is the most fabulous private client. She came into the salon for her Christmas morning hat and left with five glamorous outfits! Barbie and I have the same design vision; we love tradition, but have an eye for the future."

Barbie is certainly in good hands as Jones' loyal fans include style icons from Rihanna to Dita von Teese and he's worked with designers including Marc Jacobs, Giles Deacon and Vivienne Westwood. Meanwhile the 50-year-old doll has previously been dressed by some of the world's leading fashion brands including Alaïa, Burberry, Chanel and Louis Vuitton.

The exclusive Barbies by Stephen Jones are available at Selfridges from November 15th, priced at £250 each.
