You know the festive countdown is officially on when Stella McCartney hosts her annual Christmas lighting party - and so it was that Grazia Daily was nibbling on mince pies and drinking mulled wine at the designer's Bruton Street store in London last night. The designer invited a merry crowd to celebrate with her, including a bunch of A-list pals - but there was one extra special guest who arrived to turn on the store's festive lights.
Yes, this year's honour went to the formidable Dame Edna. Wearing her trademark purple wig and diamanté glasses, she recited a cheeky ode dedicated to her pal Stella. 'I've been trying to get her to perform here for so many years and finally she happened to be in London,' the designer told us when we grabbed a chat after the hilarity. 'I love her! She's like Cher who says she's going to retire, but doesn't really do it. I don't believe a word she says! She's a lying dame.' Chortle!
As well as Dame Edna, there was a Hollywood Dame in our midsts too: one Judi Dench. Wowee. Sienna Miller, Salma Hayek, Daisy Lowe, Victoria Pendleton and Millie Mackintosh also put in appearances, enjoying the merriment with lashings of Charbonnel and Walker hot chocolate, roasted chestnuts, Laurent Perrier champagne, and Belvedere Vodka cocktails. Daisy was spotted trying on the brand's kids clothes, namely a sharp military jacket that fitted perfectly, while Laura Carmichael was cajoled into nabbing the Christmas treats that adorned the store. But it was Stella who really got into the holiday spirit, pulling on that purple wig and impressing us with her best Australian accent. Talk about the hostess with the mostess!
Of course, we couldn't miss the chance to ask Stella about her her mate Kate Moss scooping a Special Recognition accolade at the British Fashion Awards on Monday. 'I was very proud to be featured in her video,' she said. 'We've known each other far too long and it's great that she got that award and is recognised by Great Britain. She's officially a Great Britain!' We'll drink to that.
The annual switching of the Christmas light event powered by Ecotricity is in the ninth year and has previously featured performances by comic acts including Little Britain, Peter Kay, Catherine Tate, Jennifer Saunders, Paul Whitehouse and Vic Reeves.
