Earlier this year the exciting news emerged that Sarah Jessica Parker is finally about to make Carrie Bradshaw (and our) dreams come true with the launch her own shoe collection. The line, simply titled SJP, will be sold exclusively at Nordstrom early next year, but already the woman famed for playing a character with a Manolo Blahnik addiction has revealed her first footwear collection to editors at New York Fashion Week. She told the Big Apple's fashion elite at the St. Regis Hotel yesterday, “I was so happy to support the single-sole shoe again,” as she unveiled 40 styles ranging from high heels to flats - yes, you heard us correctly. FLATS. What would Carrie say?
Here are 5 other things you need to know about SJP's shoe collection...
1. Expect plenty of suede
Sarah Jessica Parker is not a fan of a shiny shoe: "Sometimes it loses its chicness. That’s why suede is so nice — it takes color so beautifully as opposed to calf.”
2. SJP knows what she's talking about
This isn't just a gimmicky celebrity clothing line, Parker boasts extensive shoe expertise. In the role of Carrie Bradshaw, she spent a large portion of her working life strutting around in stilettos. She explained, “I was in heels sometimes 18 to 20 hours a day on set. I never took them off, but I wasn’t in pain. I had been a ballet dancer so I don’t know, maybe I prepped my feet with pointe shoes.”
3. You better be a fan of grosgrain
Despite growing up “having to wear grosgrain hair ribbons every day”, SJP hasn't been put off using it in her collection. In fact every pair will feature a stripe of grosgrain ribbon up the heel or a small tab on the side of a flat to ensure that it is instantly recognisable as part of the actress's range.
4. Colour, colour, colour
Carrie Bradshaw was a colour chameleon, and so is SJP. The actress revealed, "We’re putting new colors together that people don’t typically do, just beautiful combinations that you wish existed in your closet."
5. The whole package
Why stop at shoes? She's waited this long to release a collection so SJP is going for total fashion domination “We thought [about the metropolitan New York woman]. A beautiful coat, bag and pair of shoes — they all kind of go together. It seemed tight. It didn’t seem like we were trying to sell a bunch of junk to people."
