Saint Laurent Unveils A Pair Of Leather Sneaker Style Roller Skates For $1,195

Under the creative genius of Hedi Slimane, turning to Saint Laurent to find a gift for the man in your life seems like a no-brainer. A stripey knit sweater perhaps or a wool check shirt? Sure. But how about a pair of leather sneaker style skates? Yes, we’re talking the type worn circa 1990 with four block wheels, a stopper (sorry, brakes) and sturdy ankle support for a whirl around the roller rink. Oh, and they can be yours (or his) for the princely sum of $1195 or £765.

As they’re from Saint Laurent’s Autumn/ Winter ’13 collection and not say, Heelys, there’s obviously not a sniff of Velcro or neon in sight. Instead you’re looking at a white leather high-top sneaker with black stripe detailing. This chic monochrome design would likely be sported by many an on-trend gent, save for the vintage Krypto Impulse wheels that would be anyone’s undoing after a few beers and which could have been added almost as an afterthought.

Online retailer Luisa Via Roma only has three sizes remaining in stock proving that the popularity of this item is not just limited to East London hipster types who’ve adopted skates in favour of double decker buses and Boris bikes.  With roller-skating making a retro return (you saw that episode of Made In Chelsea, right?) these could not only be a practical gift but a stylish one too. And besides, with this price tag, you’re getting an absolute bargain when you think about how much other designer items could have set you back…
