It’s easy to understand the appeal of a cut-out dress for a young LA starlet. Offering maximum flashbulb appeal - as early adopters Liz Hurley and Kelly Brook can attest - the right cut out frock can make or break your career. These days they are all at it - even the more ladylike of red carpet stalwarts like Emma Watson and Gwyneth Paltrow - taking the flesh revealed to new, blush inducing levels.
A Cut Out Too Far? Rumer Willis' pink pant revealing dress, credit: Getty
Take Rumer Willis’ look at last night’s US Elle Women in Music event held in LA. Featuring multiple cut out holes along the thigh, her LBD exposed a well-considered flash of pink pants. Such risqué revelations would have once been seen as appropriate attire for a pole dancer, but Rumer’s pant flash almost seems pedestrian in the context of Miley and Gaga’s level of outdoor nakedness.

The question is has the cut out trend gone too far? Is it ever really acceptable to flash your pants and lady garden for the crowds? Over on Grazia Live's Facebook page, the response has been almost unaimously negative. Reader Alex Dodd commented, 'Underwear on show - not the classiest of looks', while Shonelle Bollers questions, 'Has she been cast for the Pretty Woman sequel??? Don't forget the PVC boots.. #Vile #Trashy #yukjustyuk'.

While it's clear that Rumer's look isn't the worst cut out offender we'ver seen (that prize still remains in Kelly Brook's hands), the (panty)line she's crossed seems to be the divider bewtween cut-out do and cut-out don't. What say you? Add your thoughts on the cut out debate here.
