Roberto Cavalli Says Karl Lagerfeld 'Looks Ridiculous' And Other Hilarious Cavalli-isms

09 April 2013 by

The master of leopard print, Roberto Cavalli is known for his outlandish get up... those unbuttoned shirts, leather jackets and shades. Oh and that mahogany tan. But the designer has critiqued Lagerfeld's distinctive look, as in a joint interview with his son Daniele for The Hunger magazine the designer said: 'Just because you are an artist you don't have to dress like that. Karl Lagerfeld, he looks ridiculous.'

Granted Lagerfeld's fingerless gloves, starched collars, blackout + silver ponytail shades isn't the average look for a 79-year-old gentleman. But that's why we all love him, right? Cavalli even dressed up as Karl for Halloween back in 2007 wearing a stripy tie, fingerless gloves and a silver wig. We thought this was a loving tribute to the Karl's signature style, but perhaps he was quietly mocking him?

Either way, we're sure Karl isn't too shaken by the comments about his look, as Mr Lagerfeld isn't exactly one for mincing his words. Remember when he called Adele 'a little too fat?' Ouch. Cavalli is just as blazen with his words, as last year for example he had a bizarre Twitter rant targeting the fashion industry, Anna Wintour and asking his followers if they prefer sex in 'the daytime or in the night.' If you're in the mood for some more fashion cattiness, read our favourite Cavalli quotes below...

Top Cavalli-isms

On Anna Wintour...

'Just look at American fashion, which is almost fashion. It's terrible and you almost can't even look at it, but it has been driven by a great journalist, Anna Wintour, who wants all women to be like her and to dress the way she does.' (La Repubblica)

'I confide you a secret... Anna Wintur das nt come to see my show in Milano ....... Why ?? becouse I dont do publicity in American Vogue??' (Twitter)

On Marc Jacobs...

THE ONLY AMERICAN DESIGNER THAT I LIKE IS MARC JACOBS...! but ...just in the Marc Jacobs show !!! Louis Vuitton show is for old ladys (Twitter)

On Armani...

'Between Armani and me there is an abyss. Have you seen that new hotel? It looks like a psychiatric hospital.' (La Repubblica)

On the fashion industry...

Fashion...is a big machine of money !! no creativity anymore ! In 50 years the books of fashion ... THEY DONT HAVE NATHING TO SAY ABOUT US (Twitter)

On leopard print... and God...

'I copy the dress of an animal because I love to copy God. I think God is the most fantastic designer.' (Elle)

On unisex fashion...

'In the '80s, designers started to make unisex fashion. They tried to make the man and the woman the same. I think this is the most disastrous thing in the world.'

On contemporary fashion...

'There is a real vulgarity in the way women dress at the moment. They show off too much and try too hard. They don't understand where the line is between sexy and vulgar. I know where that line is.'

On himself...

'I feel fashion needs me for many, many years more.'

'I think I was the first to show that a designer could be like a rock star, that people should love your fashion but also put your name together with your fashion.'
