From mesh tops to Balmain gowns, and Dior couture to Chanel trainers and tweed we've loved Princess RiRi's style for an absolute age. So it seems fitting that the fash industry elite do too. The Barbadian singer and all-round style goddess is set to be honoured at the CFDA Fashion Awards at the Lincoln Centre in New York on June 2. Her title? Fashion icon, a post that has been won in the past by some of the glossiest of stars (think Kate Moss, Lady Gaga, Iman and Nicole Kidman for starters).
Check out what the fash pack wore to the ceremony last year above in our gallery, and let's have a flick back over what some past winners of the Fashion Icon award wore to the ceremony itself. Can Rihanna's outfit top Gaga's 2011 number for shock value? We'll have to wait and see. Congratulations RiRi!
1. Lady Gaga in 2011
Wearing Thierry Mugler. If wearing is the right word (Gaga later stripped down to nipple tassels and mesh.)
2. Kate Moss in 2005
La Mosse opted for vintage Christian Dior when she scooped the award. And looked rather good doing so too.
3. Iman in 2010
It was on June 7th in 2010 that the model received the Fashion Icon lifetime achievement award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Iman selected her friend, actress and former model Isabella Rossellini to present the award and wore a gown designed by Giambattista Valli with four giant diamond bracelets on each arm. She thanked her parents "for giving me a neck longer than any other girl on any go-see anywhere in the world".
