Rihanna And Diane Kruger Dress Up To The Nineties For GQ Men Of The Year Awards

Spaghetti straps? Slip dresses? Those two things instantly conjure up a vision of nineties partywear, don’t you think? That’s why we were intrigued to see that in one evening two incredibly different arbiters of A-list style both channelled the same look from the same decade at the very same event….

Diane Kruger – who is no strange to minimalism but not exactly a ‘90s kind of girl – rocked up to the GQ Men of the Year awards in a simple but saucy cream cut-away Cushnie et Ochs midi dress, with a black Vanessa Bruno tux jacket casually slung across her shoulders and matching monochrome accessories – a minaudiere from Jason Wu and black stappy Jimmy Choo sandals. While this styling may have been thoroughly modern, there was something about the two front strands of hair pulled out of a scruffy do combined with the slinky slip dress that took us for a little time-warp.

Rihanna was the second girl in last night’s flashback fashion moment and if you ask us, she committed to the nineties look even more than Miss Kruger. Well, this is the girl who has rediscovered Timberland boots, cargo pants and many other seminal ‘90s fashion items. Her teeny tiny red vest dress had a touch of TLC or En Vogue '90s girl group. Especially when paired with such stripped-back sandals, hoop earrings and a single strange diamond necklace. So it may not surprise you to know that Rihanna’s feisty lipstick red frock was from Calvin Klein Collection – the man who contributed to making these spaghetti-strapped frocks so very popular the first time round. Is Mr Klein having another moment?
