From one very specific type of stage wear – Rihanna’s tour wardrobe, remember? To a completely different one – costumes for the Paris Opera  - Riccardo Tisci has his fingers in plenty of different fashion pies these days.

WWD broke the news today that one of ‘the most anticipated and cutting-edge ballet productions at the Opéra de Paris this spring . . . Boléro features costumes designed by Riccardo Tisci, Givenchy’s couturier, with set design by his performance artist friend Marina Abramovic.’

How wonderful! With this latest venture, Riccardo Tisci joins the very distinguished ranks of designers like Vivienne Westwood, who designed for the English National Ballet, Christian Lacroix who designed for the French ballet, Christian Louboutin who made some rather outrageous stiletto ballet shoes (!) and Valentino who makes clothes for the New York City Ballet.

Meanwhile the Rodarte designers, Kate and Laura Mulleavy made one or two pieces for the spooky ballet film starring Natalie Portman, Black Swan.

The ballet that the Givenchy designer is working on is based on music by Ravel, and is a super-brief 17 minutes long. Details about Tisci’s costumes have yet to be released, but they are said to be ‘heavily embroidered and true to his flamboyant style.’

We can’t wait to see them!
