Scarf design from Mario Testino for Mate

He's created some of the most visually rich fashion editorials of the past few decades, endlessly photographed the iconic Kate Moss, snapped a moment in history with Kate and Wills' official engagement pictures... Revered photographer Mario Testino may be an absolute pro at photographing fashion, but now he’s turning fashion designer!

T-shirt and bag creations from Mario Testino's Mate collection

You read correctly. After documenting the native people of his birth country, Peru, for a coffee table tome, Alta Moda, Mario felt inspired to turn his experience into tangible goods: using the imagery in this divine publication to digitally print a selection of blown-out trompe l'oeil versions onto a capsule collection of t-shirts, kaftans, bags, scarves and jewellery created in collaboration with designer Vicky Beamon.

This range with a distinctly South American flavor – the sun-drenched colour palette comes complete with pompoms and craftwork – is called Mate, aka Asociacion Mario Testino - the name also used for London-based Mario’s non-profit project to promote and encourage cultural and artistic exchange between local artists and his gallery in Lima where the goods are currently available. But you don’t need to splash out on a plane ticket to get your hands on them because the lovely people at Net-A-Porter have exclusively scooped up the range!
