Lucky ol’ Queenie. Not only does the monarch celebrate a hoo-ha of an official birthday in June, she celebrates her actual birthday on 21st April too. That’s today, folks!

In honour of her 88th birthday photographer David Bailey has released a black and white image of the smiley Queen, which was taken back in March. In the photograph she wears a dress by her senior dresser, Angela Kelly, and three strings of pearls.

David Bailey said: "I've always been a huge fan of the Queen. She has very kind eyes with a mischievous glint. I've always liked strong women, and she is a very strong woman."

HRH Elizabeth II knows as well as we do that, when it comes to partying, it’s the frock that comes first. And, oh-boy, does Liz know how to work it. She’s carried off more colours than we’ve had hot dinners in her signature uniform of a demure tweed coat and classic courts.

Even Anna Dello Russo is jealous of Her Majesty’s millinery collection (which is ALMOST as diverse as her own). The editor-at-large and creative consultant of Vogue Japan is so in awe of her, she told Grazia’s Paula Reed that our Queen ‘is my all-time fashion icon. She has the best jewels.’ Who could disagree? Nobody does ‘bling’ quite like her.

So in tribute to the Queen of Fash turning 88 years old today, Grazia Daily has taken a trip back in time to see her – let’s face it – pretty impressive wardrobe. Scroll through the gallery below to see her best Royal looks and prepare to feel seriously proud to be British…
