There aren't many women who can follow in the iconic footsteps of Claudia Schiffer, but if anyone's up to the job, it's Priyanka Chopra. The Indian superstar has just been snapped up by Guess to front the brand's Holiday 2013 campaign and she postively sizzles in the images (see for yourselves in the gallery above).
It's a welcome sight in comparison to the blonde bombshells who we're used to seeing showcase Guess' signature jeans (Anna Nicole Smith, anyone?) and, in fact, Priyanka is the first ever spokesmodel of Indian descent for the American label. Hurrah! Did you know she's a Bollywood star as well as a former Miss World too? Yep. And she also has a music career in the pipeline. So Grazia Daily had a lot to grill Ms Chopra about when we met up with the beauty earlier this week...
Grazia Daily: Congratulations on your new role for Guess – what was your reaction when you found out?
Priyanka Chopra: Thank you so much! To be honest, being a Guess girl was something that I would have never thought of, but when I met Paul Marciano, Creative Director for Guess (we were introduced by my hair stylist Peter Savic), within three seconds of meeting he said to me: ‘You’re it. It has to be you. Have your manager call me.’ For a major American fashion brand to move their campaign into a global space, well, it’s quite an honor.
Grazia Daily: What makes you a Guess girl?
Priyanka Chopra: Whenever I have been asked to give reference to a stunning photo shoot, more often than not, I’ve referenced a Guess campaign. The women are classic, stunningly beautiful, iconic, and feminine. I suppose I fit the bill.
Grazia Daily: How do you handle the pressure of filling the shoes of previous Guess faces?
Priyanka Chopra: I don’t feel pressure to fill the shoes of previous Guess faces - I’m honored to stand alongside them. I think each Guess Girl brings something unique to her campaign and to the brand.
Grazia Daily: What was the best thing about working with Bryan Adams?
Priyanka Chopra: Bryan is actually huge in India, but when I found out that "Bryan Adams" was shooting my campaign I didn’t realize it was the same Bryan! A musician, producer, writer, AND photographer?! Bryan is a true renaissance man! He is so talented and incredible to work with.

Grazia Daily: How has being former Miss World shaped your career?
Priyanka Chopra: Prior to winning Miss World, I had planned to attend college to study engineering - I wanted to be an aeronautical engineer and work for NASA. [I’m such an inner geek] So when I won Miss World at 17 years old, my parents and I had agreed to give acting one year and if that didn’t work out then I would go back to school. Needless to say acting did work out, and I am here today because of the amazing opportunities winning Miss World brought my way.
Grazia Daily: You're also an actress - what would be your dream role? And who would you love to work with?
Priyanka Chopra: I don’t know that I have a “dream role” – I’ve been so fortunate to have the opportunity to play so many different characters in my career (I’ve made over 40 movies). I’d love to work with Martin Scorsese.
Grazia Daily: Which actors do you look up to?
Priyanka Chopra: Meryl Streep and Sridevi.
Grazia Daily: What's your secret to feeling glam on the red carpet?
Priyanka Chopra: The spa is my “relax and recharge” mecca.
Grazia Daily: What can we expect from your music career?
Priyanka Chopra: So much! I’m getting ready to release my third single in March, it’s a contemporary EDM remake of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” We just shot the music video in Los Angeles, and I’m very excited about it! Shortly following that we will release my album, which is an eclectic mix (very much like me) of ballads, pop songs, and EDM.
Grazia Daily: You're clearly multi-talented – is there anything else you'd like to try?
Priyanka Chopra: Thank you! There are so many things I’d like to try – directing and producing are two things that come to mind. The most important thing for me is doing things that are creative and challenging.
Grazia Daily: Which of your skills do you get most enjoyment from?
Priyanka Chopra: I really love what I do, and both acting and music give me great satisfaction on different levels. Acting is my heart and music is my soul.
Grazia Daily: And how do you relax?
Priyanka Chopra: I don’t really have time to relax! But if I do, I enjoy visiting the spa for a massage - 90 minutes and I’m a new woman.
Grazia Daily: How would you describe your personal style?
Priyanka Chopra: I’m a total jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. Chic, sexy, casual – in no particular order.
Grazia Daily: What's on the top of your wishlist this season?
Priyanka Chopra: A vacation!
