In Celebration Of Pirelli's 50th Anniversary, Let's Look Back At The Greatest Ever Shots

For the past 50 years, the Pirelli calendar has brought us us a jaw-dropping selection of hotness, featuring fashion’s finest models as pin-ups. As we are used to seeing top models on the catwalk and in editorial (i.e working a blunt black wig and no eyebrows), it’s always a wow moment to see them in their birthday suit. And with supremo photographers like Terry Richardson, Karl Lagerfeld and 2012’s snapper Mario Sorrenti, it’s little wonder the pictures have become some of the most enduring and iconic images of female beauty of our times.

Which is why the latest images to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Pirelli calendar have us a-gawp. The brand managed to pull in two of the greatest photographers on the block - hello Peter Lindbergh and Patrick Demarchelier - as well as a bevvy of the world's most gorgeous women - we're talking Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio, Alek Wek, Isabeli Fontana, Helena Christensen AND Karolina Kurkova. Talk about a line up!

The six beauties were chosen because they're Pirelli's biggest advocates - and obviously they scrub up rather nicely too. But rather than posing pretty much in the buff and in a saucy pose as per tradition, the leggy lovelies are (slightly) more covered up. In one shot, the ladies pose on a wind-swept beach wearing matchy-matchy polo neck jumpers, tousled hair and smoky eye makeup. It recalls Lindbergh's legendary black and white images of the original supers. And for the other, the line-up is looking fresh-faced and pared-down wearing crisp white shirts and co-ordinated pants. Either way, the result is ridiculously stunning and still ever so sexy.

The group shots act as a preview to the exclusive calendar, which will be released in November, so in celebration of Pirelli's big 5-0, we've made our own tribute. Flick through the gallery above to see some of the greatest shots from the legendary calendar, from Kate Moss posing up a storm in 2006 to Cindy Crawford working her curves in 1994. It's the prettiest trip down memory lane we've done for a while...
