After yesterday's rumours that Pam Hogg is set to design Keira Knightley's wedding dress, Grazia Daily contacted the brilliant Brit designer for the truth. Here's what Pam had to say...
'Keira did love the dress but the journalist who unexpectedly questioned me at a dinner in honour of John hurt got a bit carried away,' she tells us. 'I said, "no she never asked me to make hers". I didn't even know Keira was getting married. She said it was one of the most beautiful dresses she'd ever seen, but no more than that. Making a wedding dress for someone is a really personal thing. The dress I made for Mary was the right dress for her, we talked endlessly about it until it was exactly what she wanted. I'm sure Keira has ideas of the right dress for her.' So there you have it. Thanks, Pam!

The satin and sheer wedding gown she designed for society beauty Lady Mary Charteris was one of the most reported bridal styles of all time, and now it seems the punk mistress of the catsuit is set to add another A-list client to her roster. Designer Pam Hogg has recounted that Keira Knightley was a big fan of Lady Mary's dress to the Mail on Sunday, “After the service everyone wanted me to do their wedding dress and they all came up to me and said they loved it. Keira was on the dancefloor and she was like, “Wow, that is the best dress. When I get married, I want one like that.” She said it was one of the most beautiful dresses she had ever seen.”
While we were wowed by Lady Mary’s provocative bridal gown, we have to say we are surprised to hear that Keira is such an ardent fan, as her personal style has always veered more toward safe choices rather than riotously eccentric. We had predicted that Ms Knightley would be opting to wear a creation from her favourite label, Chanel, or a similarly classic label for her impending nuptials to Klaxons rocker James Righton. But how fabulous would it be to see our English Rose in another Pam Hogg creation?
Ms Knightley admitted on The Ellen Show that she found making wedding plans “terrifying”. Keira explained, “The problem is that ever since [the engagement], everyone keeps going, 'So when is it going to happen and what's the dress like?’ I'm just not one of those girls that's had the kind of fantasy wedding thing."
If she were to choose Ms Hogg, she would be in for several fittings and tweaks with the designer. Pam told Grazia exclusively at time that Mary’s dress had been an incredible feat to assemble, “The frills alone took about two weeks to design and make and I had to hand sew the whole of the bottom of part of the dress. I was threading 30 needles at a time at one point to keep the momentum going.”
Lady Mary also admitted that she was nervous to wear such a bold design 'I was worried [about the reaction] because it was so risky. Obviously I was never going to wear your average wedding dress, but I didn’t want people looking at me and tut-tutting because I was wearing see-through panels. I saw pictures of it and the flash of the cameras made it not work as well as it did in person. The photos didn’t do the materials justice so it wasn't how I would have liked people to see it but, y’know... On the day, everyone was really nice so that made me feel a lot more comfortable.'
So will Keira be taking the same risk? She who dares wins right?!
UPDATE: Mary Charteris has tweeted us her thoughts on the Keira-in-Pam-Hogg rumours:
