Who could forget Leg Gate at the 2012 Oscars? Angelina Jolie's jaunty pose sparked an internet storm, a zillion memes and a Twitter account dedicated to her toned thigh. And it seems that two years on, stars are still taking a cue from her red carpet rule book by jumping aboard the Right Leg bangwagon. Step forward Anna Kendrick.

Arriving at the Academy Awards this evening, Anna struck a familiar pose. The actress wore a floor-length black gown by J Mendel with a sheer panel showcasing her teeny waist accessorised with a blood-red clutch, matching manicure, peep-toe heels and a whole lotta leg. Yes, Anna thrusted out her right knee with aplomb. Someone make an Instagram account pronto!

Of course it's not only Anna who's got in on the leg action. Stylish types from Rosie Huntington Whiteley and Halle Berry to Taylor Swift have also rocked the Right Leg on red carpets around the globe, making the most of their pins with a hip-jutting stance. It's certainly a pose that ensures actresses don't get swamped under lashings of tulle, but Right Leg-ing is also a not-so-subtle way to grab headlines. Just take Anja Rubik who gave Angie’s signature style a go at the Met Ball in a pelvic-bone-revealing Anthony Vaccaro dress. No underwear + hip-high slit = mega yikes.

Admittedly, Ms Kendrick has channelled Jolie far more demurely than some previous culprits. Rather than flashing her thigh, she's kept covered from the knee-up. So take note, starlets, it's best to leave the hip baring to Liz Hurley. However it's done, hats off to Angelina for spawning a never-ending army of copycats. She - and her legendary limb - are the ones with the last laugh.
