The biggest shock on the Oscar Awards red carpet? Anne Hathaway in a Prada gown. The actress is a firm fan of Valentino and has often worn his feminine, frothy creations to awards ceremonies past so was expected to turn to the Italian designer for her big night.
In fact, Mr Valentino, who Anne holidayed with for New Year's, apparently also believed his A-list pal would be championing his designs yet again. A press release was sent out earlier in the day stating the nominee would be wearing one of the house’s couture dresses.
'I didn't know what I was wearing until about three hours a go,' Anne confessed on the red carpet. 'This was the one that spoke to me in the end.' According to Fashionista, Hathaway saw co-star Amanda Seyfried’s Alexander McQueen lace gown which was very similar. Anne 'freaked out,' requiring stylist Rachel Zoe to call in a new selection of dresses. Talk about a dress drama!
Is this the Valentino dress Anne was due to wear?
Either way, the gown is a fine choice for the star who's nominated for her supporting role in Les Miserables. The column gown is tres sophisticated, sleek and elegant while the pale pink colour is very pretty. But, we have to be honest, we did want a little drama from our Hathers and perhaps her original dress would've provided that. At least the cross-over straps and bow at the back add a little more interest and the darts around the bodice certain draw attention to her ample assets. Oh, Anne!
The actress has complemented the simple look with a pale pink lip and her crop swept to one side. As for the jewels, she's wearing a sparkling necklace that drapes down her back - much like Jennifer Lawrence's - with matching bracelets. She's also due to perform as part of a musical tribute to the film, which is nominated for no less than eight Oscars, so expect to see a quick change during the ceremony.
Speaking of her recent wedding, for which she DID wear Valentino, Anne says, 'I found my soulmate and we commited ourselves to each other and that's the best thing better.' Cute-a-rama! 'I don't have a movie scheduled till [Autumn] so I have some scrabble nights coming.'
See? She's just like us.
