Oscar De La Renta Gives More Details On His Collaboration With John Galliano

09 June 2013 by

John Galliano’s involvement with Oscar de La Renta’s Autumn Winter 2013 collection created more column inches than any other story at last season’s New York Fashion Week. Featuring several of Galliano's signatures including tiny nipped in waists, deep fabric folds and dramatic headpieces, the partnership proved fruitful with rave reviews. While we knew that Mr de la Renta had left the door open for future collaboration, we have now learnt via Fashionista the full extent of Galliano’s involvement.

Designer John Galliano

Mr de la Renta explains...

“John came to me because be wanted to re-enter the business. His problems are not my problems. He’s a wonderful guy, unbelievably talented, and we had a wonderful time together. It’s important to have someone that challenges you — 75% of the collection was done by the time he got there. But I think that there were a lot of things that John tweaked around. Everyone in life does deserve a second chance.”

The question is, is the world ready to give Mr Galliano that second chance. With his Vanity Fair tell-all interview generating a certain level of sympathy for the designer and with support from some of the biggest names in fashion including Anna Wintour, the time could indeed be ripe for JG to make his fashion comeback. However, if the recent petitions against his appointment as a guest lecturer at Parsons are anything to go by, there still may be a long way to go before he can reclaim his position as fashion’s most theatrical designer.
