And it seems Pharrell is the gift that just keeps on giving. The fashion world is a fickle mistress, but Pharrell Williams has obtained an Access All Areas pass to the party. The Grammy Award winning artist, producer, singer and etc has just now added yet another accolade to his ever increasing list of HOW DOES HE DO IT!? It was this morning announced that Williams is teaming up with trainer legends adidas for a long term partnership. The first adidas originals x Pharrell Williams collection will debut this summer! Exciting!
'Working with an iconic brand like adidas is such an incredible opportunity. From the classic tracksuit, to growing up in Virginia wearing Stan Smiths, adidas has been a staple in my life. Their pieces are timeless,' he said. adidas seem equally as excited to be working with the music mogul: 'I am truly thrilled to work with Pharrell. He is a pop-culture icon that never fails to inspire, not just through his musical talent and craft, but through his many other interests. He is the perfect fit for the multi-faceted company that is adidas.'
As for aesthetic? It's all a bit hush hush on that side of things for now, although adidas have unveiled an official teaser (which, as the name suggests is SUCH a tease), above, which sees a pair of heavily graffed adidas originals walking backwards into a hotel room, where a ringed hand picks up Pharrell's iconic hat to reveal the adidas logo. 'It’s my line so it comes from my heart and mind,' Pharrell told WWD. 'I’m taking this very seriously. [It’s for] basically everyone. [I’m] not doing this for any specific demographic; I hate being put in a category anyway.'
It may have been Nike Air Max day yesterday, but adidas aren't taking the challenge lying down. The iconic trainer brand are the latest to team up with Pharrell, who has, in the past few months alone announced a mind boggling number of collaborations and projects. We rounded some up for you below:
Pharrell teamed up with Miami-based lifestyle brand Peace Love World to design a range of t-shirts in aid of International Day Of Happiness. All together now: "because I'm happy..." (Soz, it's too catchy to resist).
2. A fragrance
Mr Williams has created a scent in conjunction with Japanese fashion house Comme Des Garçons. It marks the first time the fashion house has teamed up with a musician to create a fragrance, and who better than the hottest man on the musical block? The fragrance is entitled G I R L, echoing the title of the rapper’s recently released album.
Pharrell was this month announced as the new face of Uniqlo’s t-shirt line, UT. He'll be collaborating with friend and BAPE founder Nigo - who was this year announced as the brand's new creative director - to create men and women's t-shirts, and caps, too!
Pharrell teamed up with Moncler to design a range of Moncler Lunettes sunglasses for men and women. Mr. Williams himself will also be fronting the advertising campaign for the brand.
All that's not including the furore he caused with THAT Vivienne Westwood Mountain hat he wore to the Grammy's in January, copycats of which have been spotted runways and high street stores the world over, and of course, his own hugely successful clothing label Billionaire Boys Club. Is there anything he can't do? We rounded up some of the reasons the musician is sooo in fashion. We applaud you Mr. Williams!
