He's the man responsible for the infamous meat dress that Lady Gaga wore to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, but now the singer's best friend and long-time stylist Nicola Formichetti says he will no longer be working with her. Fans of the Haus of Gaga need not worry however, as the pair remain close despite the conclusion of their professional relationship. Formichetti simply admitted that he hasn't got the time to commit to Lady G's elaborate wardrobe, which includes up to 12 costume changes a day. Unsurprising really as this year the designer has seen his creative fashion director role at Uniqlo intensify while he was recently named artistic director of Diesel.

Gaga's former fashion number one told WWD: 'She's going to be my BFF forever, but my ex-assistant Brandon [Maxwell] is heading that project. I’m too busy with [other commitments]. I’ve done two albums with her, it’s been like five years, and you know, I’m always going to be involved somehow, but I cannot do it every day. She changes 12 times a day; it’s insane.'
The project Formichetti is referring to is of course Lady Gaga's new album ARTPOP. The singer has spent six months out of the spotlight following a severe hip injury that prevented her from completing her Born The Way Ball world tour, but she's back with typical Gaga eccentrism and a whole new look. Maxwell is now the man in charge of the star's toned down approach, including an appearance at a gala benefit in New York last month, as well as recent photos that she tweeted to promote the release of her new material. The stylist revealed that he was taking his muse's look in a minimal direction as she has already exhausted a full range of shocking ensembles.

He explained: 'I think that this time it is about letting some of it go and the focus being on the music because now she’s comfortable being naked and being who she is. The world has seen everything.' On her new image he said, 'It’s more toned down and pulled back and chic. It’s also that we’re making suits out of things that they would not normally be made out of, like plastic, but they’re super well-tailored and clean.'
