Nicholas Kirkwood Says 'No Reason' For Pregnant Kate Middleton To Stop Wearing Heels

26 June 2013 by

Last year shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood criticised the Duchess of Cambridge's penchant for high street footwear and lack of ‘Princess-y’ style. He told The Daily Beast: "I know she’s trying to be democratic, but I don’t know how many pairs of LK Bennett you can wear. She does occasionally come out and is wearing [Alexander] McQueen or something like that. It’s like, ‘Do that more! You’re meant to be a princess-y type of person, so act like one!"

Fast-forward 12 months and Kirkwood has come out in support of Kate’s maternity wardrobe choices, namely that she continued to wear heels, throughout her pregnancy. While many struggle to walk in stilettos at the best of times, the Duchess has soldiered on and although she’s still in LK Bennett, the shoe designer says it's fine for her to carry on as normal.

He said: "If she is used to wearing heels regularly, there's no reason why she should stop once pregnant. I saw one of my American buyers recently and she is pregnant and wearing these towering heels that were probably 8in, but she was perfectly stable because that's what she's used to".

Kate may be a pro in heels, but she's not as daring as Kim Kardashian was during her pregnancy. The reality star continued to totter around town in spindly Christian Louboutin and Givenchy shoes like she was wearing trainers.

Come on ladies, kick those heels off and give yourselves a rest.
