Last month rumours emerged that John Galliano's next move would be taking a teaching role at Parsons The New School for Design in New York. Now Parsons has confirmed that it will indeed be offering a new master class taught by the designer.
According to Fashionista, seniors in Parsons’s BFA fashion program received an email this weekend about a new course titled 'Show Me Emotion.' It's a three-day workshop that will be taught by Galliano with the final critique reportedly given by Galliano and Parsons Dean Simon Collins. The course description says that it seeks to 'engage its participants by provoking the power of emotion in context of fashion practice and exploration of intuitive, perceptive manners of investigational making.'
Dis Magazine published the full letter Parsons sent out to students regarding the course. 'A master of tailoring, construction, research, and thematic investigation, John Galliano is an unparalleled living legend capable of blending and blurring the traditional boundaries of practice. A technical genius, after more than twenty-five years of practice, what inspires him most today is not a destination of a geographical sense but the divergent journeys of the soul, mind, and reflection. Feeling, thinking, perceiving, and responding shape his current creative identity and he allows emotion to determine the depth of a collar, the volume between body and sleeve.'
20 March 2013: Rumours Of John Galliano Teaching At Parsons
There’s been all manner of speculation about John Galliano’s next move of late, although to be fair it’s a conversation that has been doing the fashion bushfire rounds ever since he was sacked from his role as Creative Director at Dior in the midst of ‘Galliano-gate.’ Since his collaboration with Oscar de la Renta appears to have drawn to a close – the British designer embarked on a stint at the iconic New York label for the A/W 2013-4 edition of NYFW – there have been rumours of a new teaching post gig.
Last week tweets from students at Central Saint Martins alerted us to his presence at the hallowed campus, but a rep from the prestigious college quickly put paid to rumours that he was set to join the teaching staff at CSM in any permanent capacity.
However, today we heard new reports from Fashionista.com that Galliano may indeed be taking a teaching role, but at Parsons The New School for Design in New York rather than CSM. Fashionista explains, 'We happened to run into Parsons Dean of Fashion Simon Collins at Monday night’s launch event for the CFDA and eBay’s You Can’t Fake Fashion collaboration, and while he didn’t confirm or deny the rumors, he did say (emphatically) that he “loves John Galliano” and intimated that he’d be happy to have Galliano teach at Parsons.'
Adding to a report that the New York Post published in February which stated that Galliano “would be welcome” at Parsons. While a rep from Parsons said they could not comment at this time, nothing has been denied outright.
