Natalie Portman's Favourite Silhouette: Princess-Like Dior

Natalie Portman has to be one of our favourite actresses of all time. From her breakout role in Leon to the fashion spectaculars including her turn as Queen Amidala in the Star War prequels and the immaculate portrayal of an anxious ballerina in Black Swan, Natalie offers us that rare combo of both style and substance.

Further demonstrating her fashion cred, Natalie’s red carpet looks for the Thor: The Dark World promotional trail have seen her showcasing Raf Simons for Dior's design talents. As Creative Director of the French luxury label, Raf has enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with the actress who has been a fantastic ambassador of the designer’s signature take on the Dior silhouette as well as serving as the face of the Miss Dior scent.

Natalie has been a long time fan of the Dior silhouette wearing (left) one of Raf's couture designs in 2012 and (right) a vintage Dior gown to the 2012 Oscars. Both images: Rex

Heralding the renaissance of the classic Christian Dior ‘New Look’ shape – full skirts, nipped in at the waist – Raf’s red carpet designs have brought back a princess-like, fairy tale feel to the red carpet – but importantly given it a modern spin. Natalie’s first Thor red carpet look, worn to the London premiere of the film last week, included a full-blown skirt teamed with a fine, simple long sleeved top. Both ritzy and surprisingly relaxed, the look echoed Old Hollywood while giving Natalie a contemporary look. Last night’s ivory gown had less of the low-key and more of the ladylike vibe,  once again tying into the historic Dior silhouette.
