My Week In Fashion: Grazia's Senior Fashion Editor Goes To The Larry Clark Exhibition
GALLERY >> My Week In Fashion
1. Christopher Kane: Bags of Style
As well as creating the hottest ticket for fashion week thanks to his masterful designs, Christopher Kane has turned his attention to accessories and has developed a full line of bags this season, which have the fashion editors swooning. Safety buckles (a re-occurring feature in his collections) in neon or black fasten oversize totes, rectangular clutches and square handbags. It’s the ultimate arm-candy for A/W'14.
2. Larry Clark Exhibition
Last week saw the opening of the Larry Clark photography exhibition at the Simon Lee Gallery in London. The photographer and director brought his archive – a crate of photo booth developed snaps – over from the states and invited visitors to sift through. The images, mainly of skaters, friends, family and muses were shot between 1992 and 2010 and were available to buy for £100 each. That may sound pricey, but when you hear his images generally sell for around £10,000, it’s an incredible opportunity to own a piece of Clark’s art. “I wanted to do it so that the people I photographed, people of that age, could afford an image,” Clark told Vanity Fair Daily, adding “when I have a show, some of the work is very expensive, thousands of dollars, and my main audience is very young and could never afford that, so I wanted to give them something that they could have a souvenir of.” I chose a couple of prints from out-takes of the Supreme Skateboard campaign. I loved the editing process of rummage through the images, it’s the most fun experience I have had at an exhibition.
3. Christmas in July
It feels ludicrous that fashion stylists and journalists are visiting press days, looking at Christmas product, but that’s exactly what’s happening – always one step ahead! My favourite so far has been Marks & Spencer and it had me thinking about my winter coat purchase already. I’m quite taken with this pastel blue oversized style, the perfect accompaniment to a chunky knit and denim.
4. Couture Moments
Unfortunately I’ve been viewing the Couture shows happening in Paris this week through my computer screen. I have been lucky enough to attend the couture calendar in the past and I have to say, it’s just magical. The exquisite craftsmanship and the elegance of the shows are otherworldly. I have love the images that photographer Mario Testino has been posting on instagram, his all-access pass gives such a great insight into that world. Check out this backstage shot of Stella Tennant at Versace – wonderful! Search for: #CoutureByTestino
5. Ray Ban Fan
Even though Ray-Ban has been around for 75 years, they are still such an innovative brand. For summer, they have experimented with materials such as steel, titanium, leather and denim, but the best have to be these great ‘Chris’ frames in soft velvet. So luxe, they are available in 5 colour-ways with flash-mirrored lenses.
