Michelle Obama in Burberry
Michelle Obama took her style cues from the Duchess of Cambridge yesterday as she wore a British designer for her arrival in the UK. Kate often gives a nod to the country she is visiting on a royal tour by wearing a local designer, from the emerald green Maja dress by Diane Von Furstenberg that she showcased at the British Consul-General's residence in Los Angeles, California in July 2011 to the floral Prabal Gurung frock which formed part of her wardrobe for the Singapore leg of her tour of South East Asia last September. America's First Lady returned the favour as she touched down on tarmac and stepped off a private jet in a trench by British brand Burberry.
The corseted coat with a leather belt may have been as much a reaction to the drizzly Irish weather as it was a political maneuver, but this isn’t the first time that MObama has been spotted in the best of British. On a previous visit in May 2011 Michelle arrived in the UK wearing a vibrant blue ensemble, consisting of a cropped jacket and matching pencil skirt with a printed blouse by Thornton Bregazzi, the Isle of Man couple who have become a New York Fashion Week fixture via Preen’s catwalk shows, while she arrived at Downing Street to meet David and Samantha Cameron in a purple wool-crepe dress by London Fashion Week favourite Roksanda Ilincic.

FLOTUS has in fact become quite attached to the work of Thornton Bregazzi, wearing further looks by the designer duo during her husband's 2012 presidential election campaign. She also chose a dress by one of Kate Middleton's favourite British designers, Alexander McQueen, for a China State Dinner in 2011 as well as black pants and a white Victorian bustle shirt from the Resort 2011 collection for the 2013 Kids’ Inaugural Concert in January of this year.
