Michelle Obama Honours First Lady Of Fashion Anna Wintour At The Met

In just a few hours anyone who is anyone in planet fashion will be hiking up the 72 steps in weighty couture to shake hands with fashion's gatekeeper: Anna Wintour. That's right, the 2014 Met Ball is tonight, people! Ahead of the annual event, Michelle Obama honoured the First Lady of Fashion, cutting the ribbon for the new Costume Institute.

The new insitute is being dedicated to the Vogue editor-in-chief, who has raised millions for the cause. 'Anna Wintour’s extraordinary advocacy and fundraising have made this state-of-the-art space a reality,' said Daniel Brodsky, the museum's chairman, in a statement. 'She has the rare ability to rally diverse groups across a wide range of industries to support The Costume Institute so it can educate and inspire visitors from around the world.'

According to the museum, which recently finished the two-year renovation of the center, the Anna Wintour Costume Center will reportedly be the home to exhibition galleries, a library, a conservation laboratory, research areas and offices.

Wearing a beautiful long-sleeved floral Naeem Khan dress, Mrs. Obama praised Wintour in front of fashion heavyweights the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker, Diane Von Furstenberg, Donatella Versace, Calvin Klein, Tory Burch, Victoria Beckham, Ralph Lauren, Alexander Wang, Vogue’s Grace Coddington and our fave twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
