The Annual Met Gala has been going since 1948, ever since the Costume Institute was founded. While it hasn’t always had the same level of razzamatazz, over the past two decades, the gala has become starrier every year. As the Met Ball red carpet has become more and more sophisticated, so too have the frocks on show. So how have the Met Ball veterans upped the ante on their red carpet gala look? We chart the Met-volution of three Ball stalwarts!
Sarah Jessica Parker
Ms Parker gave good skirt through the noughties and certainly hasn’t been shy of making a Met Ball moment.
This year’s voluminous Giles dress teamed with Louis Vuitton knee high boots and metallic tipped Mohawk was a great case in point (above). However, we are also enamoured with her Alexander McQueen tartan look from 2006 and the pretty Valentino number from last year’s gala.

While you would never accuse MJ of being a fashion wallflower, when it comes to the Met red carpet he goes hell for leather.
For 2013, Jacobs worked a polka dot suit with a ribbon bow tie and Converse. But Jacobs’ Met-volution is perhaps one of the most dramatic of all our veterans. Take his low key look in 2005 when he brought Lil Kim as his date. In recent years however, MJ has ramped up the glamour and come in a kilt and a lace dress complete with his A/W 2012 Pilgrim shoes. Chic!

The Queen of the Met, US Vogue’s EIC has never been one to slouch when it comes to red carpet style. Always perfectly groomed with that signature bob in place Ms Wintour has worn a selection of couture designs over the years for her Met Moment.
And while you can always count on Anna to be gorgeously put together – see her Chanel Couture look this year - she certainly isn’t afraid of taking a fashion risk. Take her futuristic moulded grey Chanel Couture dress back in 2008 for the theme ‘Superheroes: fashion and fantasy’ or the Lobster embellished Prada dress that she wore last year inspired by Schiaparelli’s famous frock.
